The team here at Fish Need Water has decided to embark upon a 10k charity run for local charity Kids Company. You might be wondering how this has anything to do with you. We need to raise money for this brilliant charity, so we’re asking for your support, compassion and generosity to help us hit our target.
The team is busily preparing for the world famous British 10k run, held on 13th July at 9:35. Runner’s include Taimour, ‘speedy’ Ryan, Anthony, Fatoumata and two keen external runners.
Our story with Kids Company began when James read an article about a year ago in the Evening Standard about how some of the local children within their support network were not even eating a daily hot meal.
James said ‘I read the article and was so touched by it that I decided to have lunch with one of the workers at Kids Company. After realising that Kids Company is extremely reliant on donations, I decided it was a charity that not only needed support, but also needed some help raising local awareness of their efforts”.
Our two young apprentices Ryan and Fatoumata are also in on the action. Both runners strongly agree that vulnerable children should be given support and the chance of a positive future. Ryan even went as far as to say ‘who better to support then those who are out there protecting the most vulnerable!’
What does the Kids Company do?
Kids Company is an organisation that goes the extra mile for children that have experienced neglect, child abuse or any other forms of horrendous violence. Due to the strain on social services it’s often the case that over 90% of children’s cases are left with little or no support at all!
This is where the Kids Company comes in; they provide services that reach around 36,000 children through their eight centres and two therapy houses. Their ‘wraparound’ care model has not only given hope to children but it has also won the Liberty and Justice Human Rights award in 2007.
Kids Company is also very active locally near our office, something we are very happy about given our community spirit.
How your donations make a difference?
We truly mean it when we say that every little helps. Your donations will have a positive influence in the lives of these vulnerable children.
Did you know a donation of just £2 pounds would be able to feed a hungry child for one day?
£25 pounds on the other hand would provide the Kids Company with enough money to give a child a birthday or Christmas present with a card.
The team here can certainly remember our childhoods and being utterly amazed by the little things like a heartfelt card or a much wanted toy!
Your donations do have the ability in giving so much towards these vulnerable children.
We are hoping to raise a minimum of £500 pounds. £500 pounds would provide the Kids Company enough money to purchase art material for their therapeutic Arts programme.
In this programme the kids are given the opportunity to express their experiences in a therapeutic and artistic way. The programme has been so successful that the children’s pieces have been exhibited in the Southbank Centre and even the Royal Academy.
So if you want to help us out with a donation then please do so using our safe and secure fundraiser profile at Virgin money giving: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-web/fundraiser/showFundraiserProfilePage.action?userUrl=fishneedwater
If you cannot afford to donate cash, then we are willing to accept good quality clothing for 0-16 age range (boys particularly), books, stationery and even bedroom furniture. In fact anything that you think can make a difference to a child who doesn’t have much in their life right now.
Some of the success stories at Kids Company are awe inspiring, with Doctors and professionals amongst the network of adults who were part of their support network as children.
We would like to thank you in advance on behalf of the Kids Company and from the team at fishneedwater for all your donations and support.
