We had always looked out for the house when passing by, often stopping for an admiring look at it. Being one of only two Art Deco Houses they stood out from the more regular 1930's houses.

When we saw it advertised for sale, we just knew we had to own it!

We were immediately struck by how special and unique the house was once we'd stepped inside. We loved how the light beams into the property, the secluded garden and especially the Roof Terrace, as we'd never experienced one before. We didn't realise at the time just how much pleasure the roof terrace would give us over the years!

The house needed some upgrading, however we could easily see its potential. We modernised it, making sure we were sympathetic to its Art Deco roots, and we extended it to create a much bigger cooking and dining space as this was an important part of our family life.

We've watched the Fireworks at Norman Park with our kids and friends, as we have a brilliant view of the local displays from the roof terrace. Other events have taken place at the park, such as the motor pageant - we always enjoyed seeing the custom cars arrive. As a family, we sat on the roof under blankets to watch the meteor shower, share a drink, read our books and even eat our evening meals watching the beautiful sunsets on summer evenings. We've also celebrated our children's 21st birthdays and engagement parties along with other family celebrations up on the roof. It became something of a tradition inviting family and friends over, eating Pizzas and hot chocolates to keep us warm.

The house is walking distance from Bromley and Hayes village both with train stations for commuters covering access to the City, Victoria and Docklands which made travelling to work very easy. I would get to Victoria/work in just 20 minutes with frequent trains every 15 minutes or so.

As a family we'd often get a train to Whitstable, Margate, Ramsgate or Broadstairs for a family day out at the Kent coat. Or a train to Blackfriars for the Tate Modern, Southbank and Borough Market or Brixton for the Market and Herne hill for Brockwell Park and Lido. It's so well connected here.

We're walking distance to the George Pub, and a range of other popular local restaurants. There's an excellent choice of schools both primary and secondary. Bromley also has a great selection of restaurants and we particularly enjoyed heading there for a wonderful Sri Lanken meal at Copper Ceylon in East Street.

Just last year a Mead Way WhatsApp group was formed, providing a community feel to the road and includes numerous teachers, trades, plus an avid astronomer who shares tips on the night skies. You;'ll get some great advice if you like having your own vegetable garden for example.

We joined the local gym, Nuffield, which is one of the best Gyms anywhere and just a two minutes walk away with a pool, sauna, jacuzzi, yoga and mindfulness classes. Sometimes on a Saturday we'd cross the road to Norman Park where we'd take part in the weekly 5k Park. Often we'd walk around Norman Park and the woods surrounding it just to take i some fresh air and appreciate nature. There is also an infants park as well as a circuit for running/bike riding. Circuit and football training takes place, as well as it being a home for Bromley Athletics Club. If you enjoy keeping a healthy mind and body, it's all on our doorstep.

Hayes Bootfair at the farm is good fun when it's in season. It's a nice place to take a stroll as a family.

Keston village with its common and fishponds is a lovely place to walk and be near nature. Keston has a few nice pubs and cafes. A couple of new ones have popped up this year that we've been meaning to visit.

Hayes feels like it's on the edge of the countryside. A short drive and you're in smaller country villages such as Downe and Westerham, which are really lovely. Locally in Hayes there is a Doctors' Surgery, Dentist, there's a post office a 5 minute walk away, and a selection of take away restaurants for lazy weekends.

And then you can hop on one of three frequent buses into Bromley (less than a mile away) with its market, Waitrose, fish stall/fishmongers, selection of great restaurants, Theatre (The Churchill) or for some retail therapy in The Glades shopping mall with its Apple store and key fashion outlets.

We've loved living here and we still love the house very much but the kids have now grown up and moved out and our family circumstances have changed and we now need to make a change.
